Reference Material to assist the Design Process

From Design to Installation

1. STONE SELECTION  When selecting stone for your project there are a few things to consider:
- Stone type (marble, granite, engineered stone)
- Stone thickness (20mm, 30mm, mitred to 40, 60, 100mm etc.)
- Colour choice (granites generally come in darker tones and engineered stones in lighter tones)
- Slab size (if you have an island longer than 3000mm it may pay to see what stones come in a larger slab size so joins aren't needed.

Remember that some stones are better suited to some areas of use than others. Not all stone types and colours are available in 20mm and 30mm. Each engineered stone supplier has a different size slab.  Granite and marble slab sizes vary between batches.

2. QUOTATION When you provide us with a drawing of what you require and your stone selection we can provide you with a quote which will include template, fabrication, installation and cost of your selected stone.  Once you have returned to us your signed acceptance and have paid your deposit we can secure the stone for your project and book in a site visit to complete the template/site measure.

3. TEMPLATE/SITE MEASURE Once all cabinetry has been fully installed on site we can come and do a site measure.  On site we will need any hobs, sinks, taps etc. that will be used in the area requiring stone. We will then show you or send you the final drawing for your approval.

4. FABRICATION Once you have approved the final drawing we will fabricate your stone project using our specialist equipment and skilled fabricators.

5. INSTALLATION Usually this happens 10 working days after template.  We transport your fabricated project to site and one of our experienced installers will adhere the stone to the cabinetry or substrate.  They will fix in place any under mount sinks, complete joins, waterfall ends etc.  It is best to then leave the area untouched for at least 24 hours so the glues and fillers have a chance to dry.

Extra Design Considerations

Joins in your kitchen bench:  You may prefer to have as few joins as possible on your kitchen tops. This can especially be true if you have an island top. However sometimes joins are necessary because of the length of stone slabs available. To really get what you want, please phone us at the design stage and ask us what sizes of slabs are available. You can then design your cabinets to cater the specific length of the slab. To avoid joins around your cut outs we require at least 100mm of stone front, back & either side.

Undermounting Bowls: We will undermount any type of bowl with or without drainers, although extremely long bowl units may require joins.
